I have computer access again because I’m at my parents’ house. The computer is still at the shop, but it’s a relatively simple (though expensive) fix. Hopefully it’ll be ready when I get home to Richmond.
DoctorSpouses did get posted the past two weeks, but the rest of my Internetting has been reading email and checking Facebook. It is not fun trying to type anything longer than a sentence on a Kindle.
Here are the links to the DoctorSpouses posts:
- The Final Countdown – 90% a last-minute to-do list.
- OTSMAN – A rundown of some interesting/random things in the Officer Training School Manual that The Husband has to memorize for his first quiz later this week. Mostly about Saluting and No Touching!
There is a bit of a backlog of stories, thoughts, and other reflections that I want to post about from the past few weeks, but I have no intention spending my entire day in front of a computer, so they will be added eventually and probably not in any specific order.
The first, and most important, is that The Husband and the rest of the class of 2016 are now M2s (sort of)! They have finished M1 schoolwork, and the class of 2015 has finished their school year, but the M3s are still M3s and will be until July. So there’s a bit of a backlog until the current M3s move up to M4s. There are no M4s at the moment, since they have graduated and are off living it up for a month or two before starting their residency and the next three-to-nine-years of the same crazy hours and studying of M3 year,* but at least they don’t have to pay tuition this time.
The Husband left for COT on Monday. Wednesday I got a call saying it wasn’t as bad as he was expecting and then last night I got a call saying it was kicking his @$$. Apparently he was chosen as Flight Commander(? cellphone reception wasn’t great) but quickly got fired. It was okay though–the next four were fired just as quickly. It had been a long day. He called at 10:30 p.m. CDT and said he had been up since 3 a.m. No PT yet, which I thought was odd, but they’ve had a lot of in-processing to do I guess. Also, he doesn’t know anyone’s first names because they have to address everybody by [Rank] [Last Name] and they’re not allowed to talk at meals. No Talking!
If you would like to write a paper letter to someone at COT, the address is:
Rank Name (COT Class #)** 550 E. Maxwell Blvd. #9000 Maxwell AFB, AL 36112-5000
* M3 year is the clinical year, where students do 12 straight months of being in the hospital, rotating through different departments (Family Medicine, Psychiatry, Surgery, etc.). It’s long hours, variable hours, and there’s an exam every few weeks. M4 is also technically a clinical year, but after approximately October, there are no more grades or required rotations, so a lot of students take it easy.
** So I would write “Lt. The Husband (COT Class 13-04).” If you know the dates, COT Class Numbers can be found here.
